This project will have you design, plan, and build a wooden creation showing the Calgary skyline.
This project will cover:
- Safe and Skilled use of:
- Universal Saw (and Bandsaw)
- Coping Saw (and Scroll Saw)
- Cordless Drill (and Drill Press)
- Sandpaper/Files/Rasps (and Belt/Disc Sander)
- Wood:
- Metric and Imperial measures.
- Plywood and Board.
Visual Prototype:
You need to come up with a visual prototype of your design. FIRST do some sketches on blank paper to explore your ideas and THEN do a scale drawing (1:1 scale) on a piece of graph paper of your design.
Project Requirements:
Your design must include design elements that require the use of the following tools:
- Your design must be NO MORE than 30 cm in length.
- Universal Saw/Bandsaw. (For example, cutting an appropriate sized piece of wood for the backdrop?)
- Drill Press/Cordless Drill. (For example, having a sun or moon in the sky, holes for windows in buildings…). At least one hole.
- Coping Saw/Scroll saw. (For example, a piece of ¼ in plywood for a skyline of the mountains/buildings…)
- Sand paper/Belt and Disc Sander.
Optional Materials to Consider:
- ¼ inch plywood (for skyline, etc.)
- Small scrap pieces of wood (for buildings, etc…)
- Wire (for sun/moon, silhouette of buildings, etc.)
- Dowel (for towers, buildings, etc…)
